Our mission is "To enhance OU's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, recognize and respect the essential worth of each individual and value differences amongst groups. We commit to building a welcoming and supportive campus environment where each feels welcomed, valued, and supported for success. "
Our vision is "To become the leading voice in inclusive excellence."
We aspire to be the pacesetter institution in our commitment to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive community where diversity is embraced, celebrated. Equity and inclusion are weaved into the fabric of our university community.
The Office of University Community will continue to be the point of contact and arbiter of engagement, discourse, information, interaction, outreach, and leadership in the mission of diversity and inclusivity at the University of Oklahoma. OU has three campuses in Oklahoma and centers in Arezzo, Italy, Puebla, Mexico, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many of our degree programs are ranked best in the nation and provide real-world experiences for students. In fact, not only is OU home to the National Weather Center and world-renowned research, but students can begin working with researchers as early as their freshman year.
One of the most significant opportunities for Sooners lies outside the campus. We are deeply passionate about developing open-minded citizens and leaders through global education. Sooners are using technology that will set them apart in the job market after graduation. With iPad programs, inexpensive textbook options, technology playgrounds, and more, OU students can do more than they ever have before.
The Princeton Review ranks OU among the best in the nation in terms of academic excellence and students' cost. As one of the most affordable universities in the Big 12 and the country, OU is consistently ranked in the 100 Best College Buys by Institutional Research & Evaluation. With over $285 million in gifts and pledges as part of the Campaign for Scholarships, OU has been able to more than double private scholarships.
Graduate students at the University of Oklahoma have earned at least a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university and plan to pursue an advanced degree or a graduate certificate. Students who apply for graduate admission are seeking admission to their chosen academic unit and the Graduate College. Admission to graduate programs at the University of Oklahoma is a collaborative effort between the academic disciplines, the Graduate College, and the Office of Graduate Admissions. Admission is based on an evaluation of an applicant's overall record, experience, personal qualifications, proposed specialization, and an assessment of the likelihood that an applicant will succeed in, and benefit from, a particular academic program.
The Graduate Dean governs admission and enrollment in the Graduate College, utilizing the academic units' recommendations. It is the Office of Graduate Admissions' purview to admit students to the University who are approved by both the graduate academic unit and the Graduate College.
The Sooner Family embodies compassion, honesty, fairness, and civility. No matter your interests, with over 400 organizations, memorable campus events, incredible athletics programs, and Sooners from all backgrounds, there's something here for you. Our main campus is very walkable, and we take much pride in its beauty. We're also part of a close-knit community in Norman, OK, and only 20 minutes away from a growing Oklahoma City.
When OU's first president David Ross Boyd stepped off the train in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1892, he was greeted with a barren expanse of prairie, no tree in sight. His only remark at this sight was, "What possibilities!" At the University of Oklahoma, we have that same spirit: anything can grow if you have the drive to make it so.
The University of Oklahoma is truly an extraordinary institution known for its academic excellence and a strong sense of community. Attracting top students from across the nation and more than 100 countries worldwide, OU provides a significant university experience in a private college atmosphere. OU is number one in the nation in the number of National Merit Scholars enrolled among public universities and is in the top ten of public universities in the nation in the graduation of Rhodes Scholars. The OU Honors College is one of the most extensive honors programs among public universities in the United States, matching the University's best and brightest students with faculty in classrooms of 19 or fewer students. OU is one of the few public universities in the nation to cap the class size of first-year English composition courses at no more than 19. OU offers students the opportunity to study abroad in over 100 cities and 50 countries, including our signature program in Arezzo, Italy. The number of endowed faculty professorships and chaired positions has increased from less than 100 15 years ago to more than 560 today. This enables OU to keep and attract faculty researchers of national and international stature. For four of the last six years, the OU Debate team has won the National Debate Championship. Other students from across campus have worked in teams to win top awards in the National Petroleum Engineering Competition, the National Kennedy Center Competition in Drama, and the entrepreneurship program consistently ranks in the top five nationally.
