West Liberty University is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginia's oldest higher education institution. Established as West Liberty Academy in 1837 (26 years before the state was admitted to the Union), it was created to respond to the need for higher educational opportunities west of the Appalachian ridge. The institution is named for the town in which it is located. West Liberty was so named in the late 18th Century as the westernmost point of the new liberty provided through the Declaration of Independence.

West Liberty University understands that research is vital to advancing knowledge and the hands-on experience our students receive through the research process. The Office of Housing & Student Life facilitates campus events, works closely with clubs and organizations, including Greek Life, and coordinates with other departments on campus, including intramurals and Student Government Association, to provide an affluent Student Life program. The main office is located in Rogers Hall.

There is more to your University education than what you accomplish in the classroom. The Office of Housing & Student Life strives to offer opportunities for your involvement in a large variety of campus organizations, events, and activities. Please take the time to look at the large variety of campus clubs and organizations, Greek life opportunities, intramurals events, and campus activities to enhance your experience at WLU.

The Learning and Student Development Center is committed to motivating students to be successful, providing avenues for academic and cultural support, and developing opportunities for connecting students to the West Liberty University community. In this developmental process, students are encouraged to engage in programs and services to help them realize their potential. The Learning and Student Development Center blends the following offices and services to address students' needs and assist in a positive college experience.
