The mission of Oakwood University, a historically black, Seventh-day Adventist institution, is to transform students through biblically-based education for service to God and humanity.
Since 1896 Oakwood University has served to transform lives and raise leaders through quality Christian education. Over the last century, many well-known industry leaders began their career paths on the campus on what is now known as Oakwood University. Countless preachers, teachers, scientists, doctors, lawyers, journalists, musicians, actors, judges, politicians, nurses, and many other alumni have added to the Oakwood legacy.
ACA provides opportunities to qualified undergraduate students to study in other countries, such as Argentina, Austria, France, Kenya, and Spain, while completing their home colleges' programs. This allows students to be immersed in another country's culture and life while becoming conversant in its language.
The School of Arts and Sciences supports the mission of Oakwood University through its commitment to creating an academic environment where faculty teaching, scholarship, and service enhance the academic, spiritual, social, and physical development of its students.
The School of Business is made up of the department of Business and Information Systems. Its purpose is to provide traditional students with a quality Christian education, enabling them to meet the global competitive market's challenges.
The purpose of the School of Education and Social Sciences is to provide a quality Christian education that challenges each student to set higher expectations for his/her intellectual and professional growth and help each student expand his/her understanding of society and human behavior.
The School of Nursing and Health Professions provides Christ-centered education for future healthcare professionals that promotes excellence in character, professional goals, leadership, and service to a multicultural community.
The School of Religion's purpose is to deliver Christ-centered theological education to students in preparation for service to God, church, and humanity.
Oakwood University is the birthplace where dreams, ideas, and passion culminate into a life filled with purpose. Within its boundaries, one can find ample opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, mentally, and physically. Whether these opportunities come by way of campus clubs, intramurals, praise, and worship, or the mere exposure that cultural diversity brings, the gravitational pull of our motto "God First" must be grounded in intentionality. To take advantage of every opportunity presented to you here, at Oakwood, is to position the giant within to be a blessing to others and a testimony to the God we serve.
A variety of co-curricular programs and services are provided, which encourage student involvement in the campus community and enhance the Oakwood community's educational aspects. There are over 30 student clubs and organizations that YOU can be involved in.
A safe, structures, and nurturing environment caters to and promotes a healthy lifestyle for all students and the university. We promote our students, faculty, staff, and administrators' holistic development, prepare our campus personnel to lead lives of service in this world, and prepare ourselves for service. We participate in annual local, national, and international mission trips to involve students, faculty, and staff. Facilitating learning outside of the classroom to build a community in which students are encouraged to be responsible citizens.
The office of Career Development offers various services to assist students in exploring their career interests and design career strategies. The center provides career opportunities through programs and services, which will enhance their professional opportunities and increase their marketability.
The Internship program provides students with work experience in their chosen field of study. The program enables students to combine classroom instruction with practical, on-the-job experience in the corporate, business, government, and other organizations.
The Office of Student Employment is a resource for students to find on-campus and off-campus jobs while enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) here at Oakwood University. We actively employ service, strategic vision, and leadership in providing quality, student-driven services to support the Oakwood University community. Our purpose is to promptly and consistently inform students of new opportunities by posting job vacancies. Our goal is to aid and assist in the job search and be a firm foundation for your future.
