Since 2012, Kettering faculty have received eleven Major Research Instrumentation awards from the National Science Foundation, more than any other Michigan-based institution of higher education in that period. Within the campus footprint, a 21-acre state-of-the-art Mobility Research Center is in the final phase of construction. Combined with a 4G LTE advanced wireless cellular research network and industry-recognized crash lab facility, Kettering possesses an incredibly unique research infrastructure capability.

Funding your graduate education has never been easier. Kettering University offers several financial resources and programs. The Graduate Assistantship (GA) program, for example, provides support in the form of teaching or research assistantships and stipends. Kettering Graduate Tuition scholarships are also available on a competitive basis to highly qualified students.
Kettering's academic programs are offered through the College of Engineering, the College of Sciences and Liberal Arts, the School of Management, the Graduate School, and Kettering Online. We offer 13 undergraduate degree programs and 11 graduate programs, including five fully online degrees. Our 12 academic departments include more than 120 full-time faculty who specialize in cancer research fields to renewable energy to fuel cells to entrepreneurship. Since 2010, our faculty have received 11 Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) grants from the National Science Foundation, the most of any university in Michigan.

Kettering University provides hands-on research experiences for students from the moment they step on campus. The Kettering University Research Experiences for Undergraduates is a National Science Foundation-sponsored program that empowers motivated undergraduate students in the science and engineering fields to participate in summer research projects.
Kettering University's REU theme is "Utilizing Plants for Innovative Research (UPIR): Cultivating the Next Generation of Scientists and Engineers" and is an eight-week program that brings together interdisciplinary teams researchers and undergraduate students to conduct cutting-edge plant-themed research.
The CCUE helps students develop a project plan for their senior thesis that combines faculty-led guidance, class and lab work, hands-on working experience, and a focused study topic. A thesis typically involves a thesis project from the student's co-op sponsor, opportunities with research faculty, non-profit community organizations, entrepreneurs, and other business ventures. Topics include new product development, process improvement, community enrichment, and new business planning. The OSR assists faculty and students seek funding opportunities for their research projects. The OSR encourages faculty collaboration and helps pair interested students with research projects on campus.
Undergraduate students interested in research are encouraged to reach out to individual faculty members who are currently working in interest areas. Kettering faculty are engaged in research in various fields ranging from alternative energy and machine design to crash safety and anti-cancer treatments.
A Graduate Assistantship provides academically-related employment for eligible graduate students. A weekly time commitment of 20 hours can be expected; however, the actual time commitment is based on the project requirements. Benefits of the program include a stipend and tuition waiver each term. Graduate Assistantships are offered as Research Assistant (RA) positions on sponsored research projects. However, there are a few Teaching Assistant (TA) positions on campus as well. Both types of assistantships can begin at the start of any term based on the need and funding available. The department heads and faculty members recruit their graduate assistants.
