The goal of the Office of International Education (OIE) is to advance the university's commitment to raise awareness of global interdependence and celebrate the richness of cultural diversity. By identifying and promoting the international accomplishments of our students, faculty, professional staff and community members, the OIE will contribute to the development of international programming that stimulates academic inquiry and enhances cultural dialogue. We encourage students and faculty to work with us by sharing their creative energy, experiences and ideas and seek to support their work through our initiatives.

To augment this, Extended Learning offers specialized credit-bearing and noncredit programs to promote ongoing personal and professional enrichment and skills development provides outreach and community engagement and helps to forge multiple pathways into Fredonia.

The Financial Aid office staff at Fredonia is available to answer any questions you may have during your quest to obtain Federal and State aid dollars to be used for educational expenses. We process a variety of Federal and State grant programs, determine eligibility for Federal Work Study jobs and begin the Federal Direct Student Loan (Stafford) process for eligible students. Federal Direct Parent and Private Alternative Student loans are also processed by our office, as requested by families who are pursuing alternative financing options.

Fredonia's study abroad offers a number of programs for SUNY and non-SUNY students, from first year to graduate level. Any student can study abroad with good planning, no matter their major, budget, time frame, or desired location. As a Fredonia student, you are able to study on any SUNY program-- and there are more than 1,100 programs to choose from.

Enrollment & Student Services (ESS) is the Division of the University that oversees all areas of the student's experience with special emphasis on educational and social experiences outside the classroom. Promoting student growth and development while at the University is one of our most important responsibilities.

In support of Fredonia's plan and baccalaureate goals, the division will create programs and services to support students in their development of skills leading to personal and academic goals, foster responsible citizenship, and enrich the student experience.

The division will strive to provide transformative pathways where students are empowered to develop as leaders, embrace diversity, and become life-long contributors in a global society.

Fredonia, N.Y. residents established a form of higher education beyond the "common school" when they created the Fredonia Academy in 1826. Before long, the academy was known as a regional center for teacher-training. One of the era's most notable students was Benjamin Franklin Goodrich, known today as B.F. Goodrich.

In the early 1900s, after a tragic fire destroyed the Fredonia Normal School building and took the lives of six students and a janitor who attempted to save them (for more information, view this article that was published in the New York Times>>), "Old Main" was built, and for years this became the center of higher education in Fredonia, N.Y. This structure remained part of the campus for decades, and is still stands as a residential facility.

From 1996 to 2012, tremendous growth took place at State University of New York at Fredonia that included the construction of new buildings and an expansion of enrollment by 25 percent, or 1,000 undergraduates. Graduate enrollment doubled, minority students quadrupled, and international students increased by a magnitude of 10. A major capital campaign raised nearly $17 million in private funds to support State University of New York at Fredonia.
