With nearly 4,800 students and more than 300 full- and part-time faculty members, ours is a small public college, but one with big ideals and impacts. Further, our Department of Athletics offers opportunities ranging from Division III intercollegiate competition to recreational sports activities.

Admission as a freshman student is based on our seeing the evidence of a rigorous high school curriculum, with Regents classes, Honors classes and Advanced Placement courses strongly preferred. We seek students with an 80 high school average or above.

Scholarships are very limited, so apply for admission early to enhance your chances for scholarship consideration. Scholarships are also subject to funding and space availability each year. Priority is also given to applicants that live the furthest distance from SUNY Old Westbury.

One distinct advantage of an Old Westbury education is that faculty, rather than graduate students, teach its courses. When it comes to research, that advantage becomes even more pronounced, as faculty in most departments and programs closely engage students in research projects.

Working side by side with professors, Old Westbury students experience the thrill of discovery, and, for the most motivated of students, it is not unusual to have presented work at conferences or even to have co-authored papers in academic journals by the time they complete their undergraduate studies.

While the College’s science departments in particular expect majors to engage in the laboratory or field-based research, Old Westbury’s exploration of the world around it does not end there. Professors in disciplines related to the arts, humanities, social sciences and more are involved in an array of reviews of historical, socioeconomic, and cultural issues and events and more.

The College offers a number of the academic support services ranging from academic advising to tutoring.
