In 1994, five founding families, at the initiative of Laurel and George Tahija, set out to establish a model Indonesian school. By December 1995, the five families had set up a non-denominational, not-for-profit vehicle now called “Perkumpulan Mandiri” or the Mandiri Association to establish, finance, and manage educational endeavors. One of Perkumpulan Mandiri’s major commitments has been to the Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) School that began with a Kindergarten and Grade 1 in July 1996/1997 with a total student body of 25.
Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) School has grown to offer classes from Kindergarten, Elementary to Junior and Senior High school grades. A unique characteristic of Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) is its Student-Centered and Inquiry-Based approach and a balance between character development and academic achievement through The Leader in Me program.
One of the famous quotes from the great Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle is: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all".In education, there are 3 domains to be developed, cognitive, psychomotor, and affective or in more friendly terms, knowledge, skills, and attitude. They are the focus of why schools exist and why students come to school. At school students learn things, based on the curriculum decided to be used by the school, they are assessed and scored for every subject they learned.
Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri’s vision is to be a principle-centered school that develops academic excellence and lifelong learning skills in an engaged community. Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri educators, using effective teaching and learning strategies that blend the National and Cambridge International curricula, maximize opportunities for students to actualize their potential and become lifelong learners in a safe and inspiring environment.
We value integrity and hold ourselves accountable for the quality of our teaching and learning programs and all aspects of the operations that support our commitments. We value self-respect and respect for others to build strong relationships that foster a compassionate community. We engage in lifelong learning to give individuals the capacity for continuous improvement.
