The main aim of the school is to allow all pupils to develop their full potential by nurturing attitudes and sharing experiences that will serve as a strong grounding for adult life. Ysgol Bro Gwydir is working towards the gold Healthy School awards and the Green Flag Eco-School accreditation. We actively promote global citizenship and are part of the European Comenius project.
We encourage the pupils to follow a pattern of healthy eating and to be aware of health education in general from the start. Because of this, pupils are not allowed to bring sweets, chewing gum, soft drinks, chocolate biscuits, crisps, or cakes with them to school. We are sure that parents will agree that fruit is far healthier for children to eat at break time - if they need anything at all. Water fountains are available to encourage children to drink more water. All infant children receive milk daily. Recently Ysgol Bro Gwydir has been presented with the second leaf of the Conwy Healthy Schools scheme to show our success in reaching the standards of phase 2 of the project.

The Eco-Schools program is an international initiative that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. It provides a highly structured system for the environmental management of schools.
The program is a learning resource and topic areas include Litter, Waste Minimisation, Transport, Healthy Living, Energy, Water, School Grounds, and Global Citizenship. Ysgol Bro Gwydir's children take key roles in decision making and participation to reduce the environmental impact of the school. In this way, Eco-Schools extends the classroom and develops responsible citizenship attitudes at home and in the wider community. We have been awarded the Bronze and Silver awards and are working towards the Gold Flag.
