Nihon University, celebrating the 120th anniversary, originated from Nihon Law School, established in 1889. Since its foundation, the university has maintained its forefront at the forefront of university education and research with a global perspective and an enterprising spirit.
At Nihon University, we continuously strive to respond to the challenges of the present day. Under this aim, two new university departments were opened in April 2016: the College of Risk Management and the College of Sports Sciences. Moreover, we strive to be at the forefront of educational innovation. To nurture citizens who can actively contribute to society through our newly launched "N. Grand Design" framework, we develop a university-wide education improvement program. Nihon University carries its core educational aim, the "cultivation the spirit of self-independence and creativity, relying on the Japanese spirit and valuing Japanese tradition." Its specific objective is "to enhance Japanese culture and to contribute to world peace and the welfare of humanity." With these aims in mind, we have set up three policy directions (diploma policy, curriculum policy, and admissions policy). We are working to consolidate our educational programs across all the departments of the university.
Furthermore, we put students and their learning environment at the center of our focus, looking to improve student accommodation continually and to give consideration to enhancing the support system by developing a scholarship system.
Nihon University aims to contribute to world peace and humanity's welfare by relying on the Japanese spirit, valuing Japanese tradition based on its history and culture, abiding by the Constitution, cultivating the spirit of independent creativity, and working for the development of culture.
The mission of Nihon University is to develop cultured people who are of sound mind and body and conduct in-depth academic research by gathering a broad range of knowledge from around the world.
Nihon University has partnerships with universities and educational institutions worldwide, and this network provides students with opportunities to engage in international exchanges, including exchange programs and overseas training programs. Academic exchange agreements are in place with 106 institutions(as of April 2009) in 26 countries and one area. One thousand two hundred international students from 30 countries and one area are currently studying at Nihon University.
Nihon University offers the" Japanese Language and Japan Studies Program (JLSP)" to exchange students from overseas universities with which Nihon University has established inter-university exchange agreements. Nihon University also has a "Japanese Language Program (JLP)," which it offers to international students studying at other Nihon University campuses.
Nihon University offers a wide variety of academic fields of study, spanning 91 departments in 16 colleges and schools, 20 majors at the graduate school level, six departments at the junior college level, and a distance learning division. Each of the colleges and schools has its campus with an ideal study environment, consisting of a full range of software and hardware systems. The strength of each college and school is maximized for a unique approach to education and research. At the same time, the university's scale is fully taken advantage of, leading to the formation of a world-class research base built up of the ties and collaboration between each college and school.
By utilizing the university's variety of programs and facilities, student campus life will be a richer and more fruitful one. Nihon University comprehensively fulfills students' needs in supporting their activities, ensuring that their campus life is comfortable, safe, and active.
