Kogakkan is located within a lushly green, natural environment near the sacred shrine precincts of Ise Jingu. We marked the 130th anniversary of our university's founding and the 50th anniversary of reopening last year. Recognizing the roots of our university, we strive to expand equipment and environments for our educational research facilities and enhance academic research systems. We are improving education toward developing human resources that can meet social innovations in a new era.
In this chaotic and rapidly changing contemporary world, we appeal to unchanging universal values that transcend periods. We are also cultivating a love of family, local regions, and the nation, along with a sense of reverence for nature and life. Also, by drawing from history, literature, language, religion, ethics, education, and social welfare, we are clarifying what Japanese spiritual culture means. Striving to accomplish these objectives, we are nurturing capable individuals who will be respected even on the international stage. Moreover, our educational programs are developing students who will play a central role in local communities as leaders of regional revitalization. As we move into the future, we plan to continue learning from our ancestors' collective wisdom, and with pride as Japanese, produce capable graduates. By pursuing continual improvement in education and research, we will endeavor to live up to the trust society has placed in us.
The educational objectives at Jingu Kogakkan shall be to grasp the imperial nation's values, gain an understanding of its scholarship, and put this learning into practice. In doing so, while holding firm to ethical conduct, one will contribute to the advancement of civilization. Without devotion to one's studies, there can be no comprehension, and without reflection on the content, there can be no mastery. This is all the more important to recognize given the gravity and value of the school's mission.
Japan is currently facing many issues, including globalization, declining birth rate, population aging, and shallow interpersonal relationships. Under these circumstances, universities are now being questioned regarding their role when facing such issues. With three schools, including six departments in the field of cultural and social sciences, our university wants to contribute to pursue and restore Japanese human wisdom underlying the aforementioned social issues.
The students at this school must keep the significance of these matters in mind, respect their teachers and elders, strictly observe the school rules, industriously study, and anticipate the day when their efforts bear fruit. Never be idle at any time, day or night.
Based on the academic tradition of "Keiko Shokon," which means to learn the past to create the future, our university makes social contributions to take advantage of our local communities, formulates spiritually-affluent human relationships, and produces valuable educators and childcarers for the next generation. Our goals include preserving, inheriting, and developing traditions and cultures. Aiming toward developing human resources that transmit messages to the world, we strive to improve our education that cultivates advanced capabilities to meet the issues that Japan faces today and a prosperous and robust mentality among our students.
Kogakkan University Library, based on our school philosophy, stores about 350,000 books related to each academic area of expertise and the field of general cultural science, including Shinto studies together with distinct classical books and precious documents. Among them are literary works and letters written by Motoori Norinaga, a Japanese classics scholar born in Mie. Also, all the departments and research institutions have reference materials regarding their academic fields. All of these library materials are electronically cataloged for ease of searching.
To enhance and develop our educational activities, Kogakkan supports the continuous improvement of educational activities. This center is a learning support office, where full-time teaching staff is assigned to provide a wide variety of learning consultations.
