Welcome to Mazenod College. We are passionate about boys' education and have been providing it in the Oblate tradition and through the charism of St Eugene de Mazenod since 1966. Providing a well-rounded environment where each student is known, valued, and supported to reach their personal best lies at the heart of what we do at Mazenod. At Mazenod, the journey for each of your sons is a well-supported one where the relationship between the home and the College strives to create a supportive and encouraging community where each student can come to learn about himself. It is a journey designed to develop the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and personal aspects as he moves towards becoming a young adult.

We specialize in boys' education. Our extensive range of learning opportunities inside the classroom complements the many learning extension areas, sport, creative and performing arts, and service in our co-curricular program. There is a place for every student in our College to exercise his talents and gifts, experiencing success and challenge. An education with Mazenod challenges students to go to the margins, act with respect and dignity, approach life with courage and passion, and develop the heart so our young men can be people of compassion. The College has a beautiful heritage of producing well-rounded young gentlemen with high aspirations and a commitment to making a positive difference in our world.

Learning is central to everything we do, and the College provides excellent depth and breadth in its academic program to equip our students to be confident, agile, and booming learners, well-prepared to take their place in the world.

We know that learning opportunities outside the classroom have an essential place in boys and young men's development. This is why we provide a challenging co-curricular program including sport and outdoor recreation creative and performing arts service-learning STEM and public speaking.

Central to every boy and young man's journey is the academic care and pastoral care provided within the College. Our staff and programs cater to the individual, and we place a great emphasis on personal development provided through the Mazenod Journey.

A core part of Mazenod's education is the development of our students the sense of faith and spirituality. Retreat programs feature throughout the years, and the College supports MAMI's works, the missionary activities of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Through our House and Year system, the students undertake fundraising to support these missions in India, Sri Lanka, and China.

The Service-Learning program asks each student the time and commitment to service to the many agencies and community organizations the College supports. The Young Vinnies is a prevalent group within the school, and the 'Hands of Eugene' program seeks to connect our students with projects and communities needing our support.

Annually, students in Year 10 and 11 undertake immersion programs to Oblate missions in China, India, and Sri Lanka. Students in Year 12 can experience Kairos' full retreat program, which helps support their faith journey as they transition from school to post-school life.

The College has the facilities to support 21st Century learning and the development of young men. Nestled in bushland on the Darling Scarp, there are 21 acres of grounds.

At the center of our campus is the College Chapel. The Chapel draws our students to prayer and the celebration of the Mass. Old Boys can celebrate their weddings in the Mazenod Chapel. Two ovals, a gymnasium, swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, and handball courts, provide an excellent outlet for sport and physical activity.

The College has a Performing Arts Centre, music labs, and studio plus dedicated art studios to support the arts and creativity. A Library-Research Centre, specialist science laboratories, and aquaponics cater to research and scientific activity. The new Provence Design and Technology Centre opened in 2018. This facility is a state of the art to provide tailored learning in design, materials technologies, engineering, and vocational training.

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) was founded as a Religious Congregation in 1816 by a young French priest, Eugene de Mazenod. Eugene was born into a wealthy family steeped in the traditions of French nobility. As a child, these traditions were shattered by the French Revolution, and the young Eugene was forced to escape to Italy with his mother and sister to escape the guillotine.

Returning to France as a young man Eugene was stunned by the chaos and destruction he experienced. In particular, he was saddened by a society that had lost its sense of God and forgot every human person's unique dignity. Moved by the plight of his people, Eugene became a priest and dedicated himself to those who found themselves on society's margins. Eugene quickly realized that in order to fulfill his mission, he needed a certain amount of autonomy, and so, with a small band of fellow priests, he formed his new Religious Congregation – approved by the Pope in 1826 as the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.

His desire to bring people to appreciate their dignity before God moved Eugene to continually seek out the poor and those in most need so that they might realize just how precious they are in God's eyes.

One of Eugene's statements has become the motto of our College. Speaking to a congregation of poor servants in 1816, Eugene passionately prayed that those listening to him might: "Learn what they are in the eyes of God."

In so many ways, this sums up the vision of Eugene de Mazenod – and the vision of Mazenod College.

The Missionary Oblates work to continue Eugene's vision in all five world continents. His message of dignity, hope, and God's unique love for us is being shared today with many millions of people.

The Oblates arrived at Fremantle, Australia, in 1894 – just 34 years after Eugene had died. On December 3, 1995, Eugene de Mazenod was canonized a Saint by Pope John Paul II.

The foundation of Mazenod College was born of a dream – a dream to establish Catholic education for boys in the hills above Perth. This dream came to light in 1963 when two Oblate priests at the Lourdes Monastery, Lesmurdie, met with the local Member of Parliament (Mr. Dunn) and real estate agents. On the hills' map, a block of land was set aside for "Education Endowment."

Following two difficult years of detailed discussion and negotiations, Deeds of Land were offered to the Oblates on January 27 1965, providing both building and classes could begin within two years.

For a financially poor Religious Congregation, the task of raising funds to meet this demand was challenging. However, following the vision, enthusiasm, and energy of our Founder, St Eugene de Mazenod, no-one doubted that the job could be done.

A dream will remain only a dream unless the local community wishes to make it a reality. Without the local community's incredible collaboration and Oblates (Fr Ian Mackintosh and Fr Denis McCarthy), the dream would have remained only that.

Today, Mazenod College prides itself on its community spirit, and we talk with great pride in our "Mazenod spirit."

Land clearing began in May 1965. The first Mazenod College building's foundations were laid only four months later, long before the age of multi-purpose rock-breakers and when raw dynamite and back-breaking digging was the only way to clear and level land for building purposes. Our first College building was finished in May 1966.

The actual start of Mazenod College as a school was February 14, 1966, when Frs. McCarthy and Mackintosh welcomed thirty-one boys as the first grade 6 & 7 students of Mazenod College, Western Australia.

Shortly after this, Fr Don Hughes was appointed as the school's first Rector, and Mazenod College was officially opened on May 8 1966.

Our Oblate dream to serve Western Australian people through education was fully realized when we established a Boarding residence in 1967, thus enabling students from rural areas to benefit from a quality education in a Catholic and Oblate tradition.

Mazenod College, Western Australia, is one of three Colleges founded by the Oblates in Australia. We share a shared vision and mission with Mazenod College (Victoria) and Iona College (Queensland). In more recent years, St Eugene's College (Queensland) was founded within a parish operated by the Oblates. Hence, the message and tradition of St Eugene de Mazenod continue to grow and develop in our time.
