Lord Mahavir was born in 599 BCE in Bihar, India. He was the son of King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. He was born into a royal family but renounced his material comforts at the age of thirty and spent the next twelve years in deep meditation and spiritual practice. He attained enlightenment at the age of forty-two and became a great spiritual teacher. He preached ahimsa (non-violence) and advocated for the rights of all living creatures.

Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion by the Jain community. Prayers are offered to Lord Mahavir in temples and people gather to listen to sermons and lectures given by religious scholars. In some places, a procession is carried out with a statue of Lord Mahavir. People also visit Jain temples to seek his blessings.

Mahavir Jayanti is also celebrated with various cultural activities such as singing, dancing, and reciting religious hymns. People also exchange gifts and sweets with each other. On this day, people also take a vow of non-violence and abstain from eating meat and drinking alcohol.

Mahavir Jayanti is a day to remember and celebrate the life of Lord Mahavir and to take inspiration from his teachings. It is a day to reflect on the importance of non-violence and to strive for a more harmonious world. It is also a day to remember the importance of respecting all living creatures and to be kind to one another.
