Rath Yatra is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India. It is celebrated in many different forms in different parts of India. The literal meaning of the term Rath Yatra is ‘Chariot Festival’. It is celebrated mainly in the states of Odisha, West Bengal, and Gujarat.

Rath Yatra is celebrated in honor of Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to mythology, Lord Jagannath is believed to have descended from heaven in a chariot along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. The Rath Yatra is celebrated to commemorate this event.

On this day, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are taken out of the temple in three separate chariots. These chariots are known as raths and are constructed with wood and decorated with colorful fabrics and flowers. The chariots are pulled by devotees with the help of ropes. This is a symbolic representation of the journey of Lord Jagannath to his birthplace.

The Rath Yatra is a grand festival and is celebrated with much enthusiasm and joy. People from all over the country come to witness the procession. The chariots are accompanied by a band of musicians playing traditional instruments. Devotees sing and dance to the rhythm of the music.

The Rath Yatra is also celebrated as an opportunity for devotees to seek blessings from Lord Jagannath. People offer prayers and seek his blessings for a prosperous life. After the procession, the chariots are taken back to the temple and the idols are placed back in the temple.
