Event details

Janmashtami is a famous Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is celebrated on the eighth day (ashtami) of the Hindu lunar month of Shravana, which falls in either August or September.

The festival is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm all across India. People gather in temples to offer prayers and sing devotional songs. Special rituals and puja are performed to mark the occasion. Temples are decorated with flowers and lights and devotees perform aarti in the evening.

The highlight of the festival is the dahi handi ceremony, where a pot filled with curd and other items is hung from a height and a team of young men form a human pyramid to break it. The ritual symbolizes Lord Krishna's victory over evil.

Another popular ritual is the Govardhan Puja, where people make a small mountain out of cow dung and decorate it with flowers, fruits, and vegetables. This ritual is performed to commemorate Lord Krishna's lifting of the Govardhan Hill to protect the people of Vrindavan from Indra's wrath.

Janmashtami is a time of joy and celebration. People exchange sweets and gifts with each other and enjoy the festivities with friends and family. Children dress up as Lord Krishna and Radha and enact scenes from the Bhagavad Gita.

The festival is celebrated with great devotion and love, and it reminds us of the importance of faith, devotion, and kindness that Lord Krishna taught us. On this day, let us all take a moment to remember the teachings of Lord Krishna and strive to be better human beings.
