Durga Puja is one of the biggest and most important festivals of India. It is celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwin, which falls between September and October. The festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil demon Mahishasura. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy all over the country.

The first day of Durga Puja is known as Mahalaya, which marks the beginning of the festivities. On this day, people wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath in the rivers. This is believed to purify the body and soul. Then, they offer prayers to the Goddess and seek her blessings.

The next day of the festivities is known as Shashthi. On this day, the idols of Goddess Durga are installed in the temples and pandals. People offer flowers and fruits to the Goddess and seek her blessings. The idols are then decorated with beautiful clothes and ornaments. This day is also marked by the chanting of mantras and the beating of drums.

The third day of the festival is known as Saptami. On this day, people offer special puja to the Goddess and seek her blessings. Prayers are offered to the Goddess and to the other gods and goddesses associated with her. Special dishes are also prepared and offered to the Goddess.

The fourth day of the festival is known as Ashtami. On this day, people offer special puja to the Goddess and seek her blessings. The devotees also take part in the rituals of Kumari Puja and Kanya Puja. In Kumari Puja, young unmarried girls are worshipped as the Goddess Durga. In Kanya Puja, nine young unmarried girls are worshipped as the nine forms of the Goddess.

The fifth day of the festival is known as Navami. On this day, the devotees offer special puja to the Goddess and seek her blessings. The idols of the Goddess are immersed in the river or sea on this day. This marks the end of the festival.
