Lohri is a popular winter festival celebrated in India, particularly in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi. It is celebrated on the 13th of January every year. The festival marks the end of the cold winter season and the beginning of the new harvest season.

Lohri is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by people of all ages. On this day, people light a bonfire and offer prayers to the gods and goddesses of fire. Prasad of sesame seeds, jaggery, popcorn and peanuts is also offered to the bonfire. People also exchange gifts and sweets with each other.

The traditional custom of Lohri is to sing and dance around the bonfire. People sing traditional folk songs and perform the traditional Bhangra dance. It is believed that the more people dance around the bonfire, the more the gods and goddesses are pleased.

The festival of Lohri is also associated with the legend of Dulla Bhatti. He was a brave and noble man who rescued poor girls from the clutches of wicked landlords and helped them to get married. People celebrate Lohri in his honour and distribute sweets and money among the poor.

Apart from being a religious festival, Lohri is also a social gathering where people come together to celebrate the joys of life. People enjoy the warmth of the bonfire and savour the delicious Prasad. It is a time of joy, celebration and happiness.
